CALL TO WORSHIP
*ANNIVERSARY HYMN to the tune of “The Church’s One Foundation+
1. Our founders’ first foundation was Jesus Christ their Lord,
He was their inspiration by action and by Word.
To Him they prayed and asked Him to be their holy guide
And sought to witness for Him throughout our city wide.
2. It was in nineteen-sixty they built our church with love,
With faithful dedication and trust in God above,
Then filled the years with service to God and fellowman;
May Jesus’ Spirit stir us to keep our forebears’ plan.
3. We honor those trailblazers who built on solid ground
Casting aside all rising fears, with faith that they had found.
We all revere the preachers, the choirs, and the trustees,
The teachers, and the dreamers who’ve shared our victories.
4. Then came the Holy Spirit descending from above,
Redeeming souls of many, filling their hearts with love,
Responding to the challenge that all the world be won,
We pledge our lives in service, to God the Three in One.
5. We are the congregation of Miramar’s own church
With Methodist devotion we dedicate our search
To find His will and favor, to combat what is wrong,
And keep His love the power that makes us ever strong.
WORDS: Jack Gallagher MUSIC: Samuel Sebastian Wesley, 1864

As the Deer Pants
1 As the deer pants for the water, so my soul longs after You,
You alone are my heart's desire, and I long to worship You.
You alone are my strength my shield, to You alone may my spirit yield,
You alone are my heart's desire, and I long to worship You.
2 I want you more than gold or silver, only you can satisfy,
You alone are the real joy-giver, and the apple of my eye.
You alone are my strength my shield, to You alone may my spirit yield,
You alone are my heart's desire, and I long to worship You.
3 You're my friend and You are my Brother, even though You are a King,
I love You more than any other, so much more than anything.
You alone are my strength my shield, to You alone may my spirit yield,
You alone are my heart's desire, and I long to worship You.

RESPONSIVE READING 777 (Psalm 42)
As the deer longs for flowing streams, so longs my soul for you, O God.
My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and behold the face of God?
My tears have been my food day and night, while people say to me continually, “Where is thy God?”
These things I remember as I pour out my soul: how I went with the throng and led them in procession to the house of God, with glad glad shouts and songs of thanksgiving, a multitude keeping festival.
Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God: whom again I shall praise, my help and my God.
My soul is cast down within me, therefore I remember you from the land of Jordan, and of Hermon, from mount Mizar.
Deep calls to deep at the thunder of your cataracts; all your billows have gone over me.
By day the Lord commands his steadfast love; and at night God’s song is with me, a prayer to the God of my life.
I say to God, my rock: “Why have you forgotten me? Why do I mourn because of the oppression of the enemy?”
Like a deadly wound in my body, my adversaries taunt me;
they say to me continually, “Where is your God?
Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me?
Hope in God: whom again I shall praise, my help and my God.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost;
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen. Amen

*HYMN 173 Christ, Whose Glory Fills the Skies+
1 Christ, whose glory fills the skies, Christ, the true, the only light,
Sun of Righteousness, arise, triumph o'er the shades of night;
Dayspring from on high, be near; Daystar, in my heart appear.
2. Dark and cheerless is the morn unaccompanied by thee;
joyless is the day's return, till thy mercy's beams I see;
till they inward light impart, cheer my eyes and warm my heart.
3. Visit then this soul of mine; pierce the gloom of sin and grief;
fill me, Radiancy divine; scatter all my unbelief;
more and more thyself display, shining to the perfect day.
WORDS: Charles Wesley, 1740 MUSIC: J.G. Werner’s Choralbuch, 1815; harm. by William H Havergal, 1861
*HYMN 501 O Thou Who Camest from Above
1. O Thou who camest from above,
the pure celestial fire to impart
kindle a flame of sacred love
upon the mean altar of my heart.
2. There let it for thy glory burn
with inextinguishable blaze,
and trembling to its source return,
in humble prayer and fervent praise.
3. Jesus, confirm my heart's desire
to work and speak and think for thee;
still let me guard the holy fire,
and still stir up thy gift in me.
4. Ready for all thy perfect will,
my acts of faith and love repeat,
till death thy endless mercies seal,
and make my sacrifice complete.
WORDS: Charles Wesley, 1762 MUSIC: Samuel Sebastian Wesley, 1872

Jesus Loves Me This I Know
1 Jesus loves me! this I know, for the Bible tells me so.
Little ones to him belong; they are weak, but he is strong.
Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me! The Bible tells me so.
2 Jesus loves me, this I know, as he loved so long ago,
taking children on his knee, saying, "Let them come to me."
Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me! The Bible tells me so.
3 Jesus loves me still today, walking with me on my way,
wanting as a friend to give, light and love to all who live.
Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me! The Bible tells me so.

PRAYER HYMN 479 Jesus, Lover of My Soul+
1. Jesus, lover of my soul,
let me to thy bosom fly,
while the nearer waters roll,
while the tempest still is high.
Hide me, O my Savior, hide,
till the storm of life is past;
safe into the haven guide;
O receive my soul at last.
2 Other refuge have I none,
hangs my helpless soul on thee;
leave, ah! leave me not alone,
still support and comfort me.
All my trust on thee is stayed,
all my help from thee I bring;
cover my defenseless head
with the shadow of thy wing.
3. Thou, O Christ, art all I want,
more than all in thee I find;
raise the fallen, cheer the faint,
heal the sick, and lead the blind.
Just and holy is thy name,
I am all unrighteousness;
false and full of sin I am;
thou art full of truth and grace.
4. Plenteous grace with thee is found,
grace to cover all my sin;
let the healing streams abound,
make and keep me pure within.
Thou of life the fountain art,
freely let me take of thee;
spring thou up within my heart;
rise to all eternity.
WORDS: Charles Wesley, 1740 MUSIC: Joseph Parry, 1879
PRAYER OF INTERCESSION and THE LORD’S PRAYER.
Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy Name; Thy kingdom come;
Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven:
Give us this day our daily bread;
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:
For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory,
For ever and ever. Amen.

*HYMN OF SENDING FORTH 731 Glorious Things of Thee Are Spoken+
1. Glorious things of thee are spoken,
Zion, city of our God;
God, whose word cannot be broken,
formed thee for his own abode.
On the Rock of Ages founded,
what can shake thy sure repose?
With salvation's walls surrounded,
thou mayst smile at all thy foes.
2. See, the streams of living waters,
springing from eternal love,
well supply thy sons and daughters,
and all fear of want remove.
Who can faint while such a river
ever will their thirst assuage?
Grace which like the Lord, the giver,
never fails from age to age.
3. Round each habitation hovering,
see the cloud and fire appear
for a glory and a covering,
showing that the Lord is near!
Thus deriving from our banner
light by night and shade by day,
safe we feed upon the manna
which God gives us when we pray.
4. Blest inhabitants of Zion,
washed in our Redeemer's blood;
Jesus, whom our souls rely on,
makes us monarchs, priests to God.
Us, by his great love, he raises,
rulers over self to reign,
and as priests his solemn praises
we for thankful offering bring.
WORDS: John Newton, 1779 MUSIC: Croatan Folk song; arr. by Franz Joseph Hayden, 1797
