CALL TO WORSHIP
*HYMN 92 For the Beauty of the Earth+
1. 1. For the beauty of the earth,
for the glory of the skies,
for the love which from our birth
over and around us lies;
Lord of all, to thee we raise
this our hymn of grateful praise.
2. For the beauty of each hour
of the day and of the night,
hill and vale, and tree and flower,
sun and moon, and stars of light;
Lord of all, to thee we raise
this our hymn of grateful praise.
3. For the joy of ear and eye,
for the heart and mind's delight,
for the mystic harmony,
linking sense to sound and sight;
Lord of all, to thee we raise
this our hymn of grateful praise.
4. For the joy of human love,
brother, sister, parent, child,
friends on earth and friends above,
for all gentle thoughts and mild;
Lord of all, to thee we raise
this our hymn of grateful praise.
5. For thy church, that evermore
lifteth holy hands above,
offering up on every shore
her pure sacrifice of love;
Lord of all, to thee we raise
this our hymn of grateful praise.
6. For thyself, best Gift Divine,
to the world so freely given,
for that great, great love of thine,
peace on earth, and joy in heaven:
Lord of all, to thee we raise
this our hymn of grateful praise.
WORDS: Folliot S. Pierpoint, 1864 MUSIC: Conrad Kocher, 1838; arr. by W. H. Monk,1861
*HYMN 97 For the Fruits of This Creation+
1. For the fruits of this creation, thanks be to God;
for good gifts to every nation, thanks be to God;
for the plowing, sowing, reaping,
silent growth while we are sleeping,
future needs in earth’s safe-keeping, thanks be to God.
2. In the just reward of labor, God’s will is done;
in the help we give our neighbor, God’s will is done;
in our worldwide task of caring
for the hungry and despairing,
in the harvests we are sharing, God’s will is done.
3. For the harvests of the Spirit, thanks be to God;
for the good we all inherit, thanks be to God;
for the wonders that astound us,
for the truths that still confound us,
most of all, that love has found us, thanks be to God.
WORDS: Fred Pratt Green, 1970 MUSIC: Francis Jackson, 1957
*HYMN 128 He Leadeth Me: O Blessed Thought+
1. He leadeth me: O blessed thought!
O words with heavenly comfort fraught!
Whate’er I do, where’er I be, still ’tis God’s hand that leadeth me.
He leadeth me, he leadeth me, by his own hand he leadeth me;
his faithful follower I would be, for by his hand he leadeth me.
2. Sometimes mid scenes of deepest gloom,
sometimes where Eden’s bowers bloom,
by waters still, o’er troubled sea, still ’tis his hand that leadeth me.
He leadeth me, he leadeth me, by his own hand he leadeth me;
his faithful follower I would be, for by his hand he leadeth me.
3. Lord, I would place my hand in thine,
nor ever murmur nor repine;
content, whatever lot I see, since ’tis my God that leadeth me.
He leadeth me, he leadeth me, by his own hand he leadeth me;
his faithful follower I would be, for by his hand he leadeth me.
4. And when my task on earth is done,
when by thy grace the victory’s won,
e’en death’s cold wave I will not flee,
since God through Jordan leadeth me.
He leadeth me, he leadeth me, by his own hand he leadeth me;
his faithful follower I would be, for by his hand he leadeth me.
WORDS: Paul Gerhardt, 1653; trans. by John Wesley, 1739 MUSIC: William H. Walter, 1894

Hymn 404 Every time I feel the Spirit(Sing once)
Every time I feel the Spirit
moving in my heart, I will pray.
Yes, every time I feel the Spirit
moving in my heart, I will pray.
1 Upon the mountain, my Lord spoke,
out his mouth came fire and smoke.
All around me, looks so shine,
ask my Lord if all was mine.
Every time I feel the Spirit
moving in my heart, I will pray.
Yes, every time I feel the Spirit
moving in my heart, I will pray.
2 Jordan river, runs right cold,
chills the body, not the soul.
Ain’t but one train on this track,
runs to heaven and right back.
Every time I feel the Spirit
moving in my heart, I will pray.
Yes, every time I feel the Spirit
moving in my heart, I will pray.

Hymn 431 Let There Be Peace On Earth (Sing once)
Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me;
Let there be peace on earth, the peace that was meant to be.
With God, our creator, children all are we,
Let us walk with each other in perfect harmony.
Let peace begin with me; let this be the moment now.
With every step I take, let this be my solemn vow:
To take each moment and live each moment
in peace eternally.
Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me.
Hymn 585 This little light of mine (Sing once)
1 This little light of mine, I'm goin’a let it shine.
This little light of mine, I'm goin’a let it shine.
This little light of mine, I'm goin’a let it shine.
Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.
2 Everywhere I go, I'm goin’a let it shine.
Everywhere I go, I'm goin’a let it shine.
Everywhere I go, I'm goin’a let it shine.
Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.
3 All through the night, I'm goin’a let it shine.
All through the night, I'm goin’a let it shine.
All through the night, I'm goin’a let it shine.
Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.

HYMN 103 Immortal Invisible God Only Wise+
1. Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
in light inaccessible hid from our eyes,
most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days,
almighty, victorious, thy great name we praise.
2. Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light,
nor wanting, nor wasting, thou rulest in might;
thy justice like mountains high soaring above
thy clouds which are fountains of goodness and love.
3 To all, life thou givest, to both great and small;
in all life thou livest, the true life of all;
we blossom and flourish as leaves on the tree,
and wither and perish, but naught changeth thee.
4. Thou reignest in glory; thou dwellest in light;
thine angels adore thee, all veiling their sight;
all laud we would render: O help us to see
’tis only the splendor of light hidest thee.
WORDS: Walter Chalmers Smith, 1867.
*HYMN 127 Guide me O Thou great Jehovah+
1. Guide me, O thou great Jehovah,
pilgrim through this barren land.
I am weak, but thou art mighty;
hold me with thy powerful hand.
Bread of heaven, bread of heaven,
feed me till I want no more;
feed me till I want no more.
2. Open now the crystal fountain,
whence the healing stream doth flow;
let the fire and cloudy pillar
lead me all my journey through.
Strong deliverer, strong deliverer,
be thou still my strength and shield;
be thou still my strength and shield.
3. When I tread the verge of Jordan,
bid my anxious fears subside;
death of death and hell's destruction,
land me safe on Canaan's side.
Songs of praises, songs of praises,
I will ever give to thee;
I will ever give to thee.
WORDS: William Williams, 1745; trans. from the Welsh by Peter Williams and the author, 1771 MUSIC: John Hughes, 1907

PRAYER HYMN 348 Softly and Tenderly Jesus Is Calling+
1. Softly and tenderly Jesus is calling,
calling for you and for me;
see, on the portals he’s waiting and watching,
watching for you and for me.
Come home, (come home,)
come home; (come home;)
you who are weary, come home;
earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling,
calling, O sinner, come home!
2. Why should we tarry when Jesus is pleading,
pleading for you and for me?
Why should we linger and heed not his mercies,
mercies for you and for me?
Come home, (come home,)
come home; (come home;)
you who are weary, come home;
earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling,
calling, O sinner, come home!
3. Time is now fleeting, the moments are passing,
passing from you and from me;
shadows are gathering, deathbeds are coming,
coming for you and for me.
Come home, (come home,)
come home; (come home;)
you who are weary, come home;
earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling,
calling, O sinner, come home!
4. O for the wonderful love he has promised,
promised for you and for me!
Though we have sinned, he has mercy and pardon,
pardon for you and for me.
Come home, (come home,)
come home; (come home;)
you who are weary, come home;
earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling,
calling, O sinner, come home!

PRAYER OF INTERCESSION AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy Name;
Thy kingdom come;
Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven:
Give us this day our daily bread;
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:
For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory,
For ever and ever. Amen.

*HYMN OF SENDING FORTH 396 O Jesus, I Have Promised+
1. O Jesus, I have promised to serve thee to the end;
be thou forever near me, my Master and my friend.
I shall not fear the battle if thou art by my side,
nor wander from the pathway if thou wilt be my guide.
2. O let me feel thee near me! The world is ever near;
I see the sights that dazzle, the tempting sounds I hear;
my foes are ever near me, around me and within;
but Jesus, draw thou nearer, and shield my soul from sin.
3 O let me hear thee speaking in accents clear and still,
above the storms of passion, the murmurs of self-will.
O speak to reassure me, to hasten or control;
O speak, and make me listen, thou guardian of my soul.
4. O Jesus, thou hast promised to all who follow thee
that where thou art in glory there shall thy servant be.
And Jesus, I have promised to serve thee to the end;
O give me grace to follow, my Master and my Friend.

A Prayer for the Nation from Bishop Tom Berlin
Our hearts are burdened by the violence unfolding before us.
As bombs fall in Iran and fear rises, we cry out to You.
We pray for the people of Iran who have no influence or say in the actions of their government but this morning, live in fear.
We remember the people of Israel, who over and over have been wounded by war and are weary of conflict.
We pray for those in the United States who fear repercussions and know the cost of conflict.
Bring protection to the innocent,
Peace to those who live in fear,
And justice rooted in compassion.
We lift before You the men and women serving in the U.S. military,
Those who walk into danger in the name of duty.
Guard their lives, steady their spirits,
And bring them home in peace.
In this critical moment, we lift before You the leaders of the world—
Presidents, prime ministers, Ayatollah, imams, generals, diplomats, and all who hold power and influence.
Surround them with wise counselors.
Speak to them by the power of your Holy Spirit.
Quiet every voice that speaks out of pride, fear, vengeance, or greed.
Enable them to work to end conflict before it spirals into further harm.
Open their ears to hear the cries of the innocent,
And their hearts to the cost of war.
May they choose the narrow path of peace
Over the wide road of destruction.
Give them the courage to pause before violence,
The imagination to seek alternatives.
We pray especially for the leaders of the United States, Iran, Israel,
And every nation drawn into this spiral of conflict.
Let no decision be made in haste or hatred.
Let no life be treated as expendable.
Lord, enable us to one day beat swords into plowshares,
And stir a holy unrest in every leader who dares to believe
That peace is not weakness but wisdom.
We, Your people, commit ourselves to prayer, to accountability, to vigilance, and to the hard work of peace. Help us not to fall into despair or continued division.
Guard our minds and mouths from hateful speech—online, in our communities, and in our hearts.
Come, Lord Jesus.
Rule in every heart.
Reign in every place.
And lead Your world in the ways of justice and peace.
In the name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
